By Seminars/Conferences No Comments

Mr. Martin Hernqvist took the center stage delivering a Resource Management seminar in Yangon, Myanmar to a full house audience. The seminar took place at the Meliá Hotel on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 08.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon. Around 230 participants from various sectors of the Myanmar society (healthcare, maritime, aviation, law, universities etc) attended the event. The seminar could not have been made possible without Capt. San Win of Wallenius Marine in Singapore who took the initiative in making the seminar a reality and a success. Other important contributors were the 14 sponsors and the Department of Marine Administration (DMA) along with a large number of volunteers contributing to the success of the event. Everyone was very happy with the arrangements and the outcome of the seminar.

Martin Hernqvist, Managing Director of ALL Academy, was invited to speak at the Maritime Conference Myanmar which was held on 15-16 November 2018 at Rose Garden Hotel in Yangon. The event was organised by Myanmar Nautical Association (MNA) and about 340 delegates attended the conference. Reading from the organisers’ post, the focus of the conference was on major insurance, regulation, environment and job opportunities for Myanmar seafarers, with a focus on how the industry has progressed in its technology adoption strategy, and what more needs to be done.

The conference was the first event ever organised within the maritime industry in Myanmar. The event brought together representatives from regional associations, government entities, shipowners, and major stakeholders with the aim of developing Myanmar’s maritime sector.

Odd theme at CrewConnect Europe conference in Copenhagen

By Seminars/Conferences No Comments

What have politics to do with maritime human factors training? Or rather, what can politicians learn from an industry where leadership, communication, challenge & response and situation awareness are critical in order to make good decisions and to get things right? It turned out, quite a lot. Martin Hernqvist of ALL Academy, who gave the presentation, said he had never before illustrated the need for resource management with such an odd example, far from the maritime business. The presentation clearly showed that resource management is not just for shipping and aviation. The ideas can be applied in everything that we do – at work and in our personal lives – in situations where good decsions are critical. “It was a little bit of an experiment”, Martin admits after his presentation. “Politics may be sensitive, people may have very strong opinions about it and you don’t know who is in the audience.” However, the presentation was well received at the CrewConnect Europe Conference and Martin claimed he had never before received so many positive comments from delagates after a presentation like this time in Copenhagen.

What can we learn from this? First, looking at things from a different perspective is always important. Second, if you have an idea that you wish to try – no matter how odd it may seem – “just do it”.

Maritime Safety Seminar for Shipping Companies in Singapore

By Accidents and investigations, ALL Academy, Bridge Resource Management, Maritime Resource Management (MRM), Seminars/Conferences No Comments

We were not surprised that a “maritime safety seminar for shipping companies aiming at zero insurance claims” should attract a large number of safety-oriented people in Singapore. We spent half a day at the Furama RiverFront hotel on November 7, 2016 discussing contributing factors in accidents, the impact of national and company culture, pilotage issues and how we best increase safety, efficiency and job satisfaction in our shipping companies. Many good ideas and comments came from the highly experienced participants, many of them in top management positions.
