It was a highly informal event with lots of laughs combined with serious discussions. Many thanks to all participants for a great day!

Martin Hernqvist of ALL Academy was invited to talk about “How to substantially enhance safety through implementation of Maritime Resource Management” at Tanker Safety Forum’s meeting on 10 September 2014. The meeting was held at UltraShip in Gentofte, Copenhagen.
The Tanker Safety Forum is a cooperation between tanker owners and operators in Denmark. The group meets regularly to discuss safety issues of common interest.
On 20-21 August 2014 an intensive MRM course was carried out with participants from the RS Sea Rescue Academy (RS Sjøredningsskolen AS) in Norway. The course took place at the RS Sea Rescue Academy’s modern facilities in Borre, Horten. Most of the participants are instructors at the RS Sea Rescue Academy. The course facilitator was Martin Hernqvist of ALL Academy (far right in the photo below).
A month after the first MRM session for Stena RoRo, ALL Academy had the pleasure of repeating the task on May 27th. The conference took place at Arken conference centre in Gothenburg. The event was very similar to last time with about 50 participants of which half the group from office and half from sea. A good mix most suitable for the MRM topic.

We were pleased to get the opportunity, for the third time, to talk about Maritime Resource Management at an officer conference hosted by tanker owner Laurin Maritime AB. Last time was in Manila at the end of March 2014. This time, on 19 May 2014, the conference took place at Varberg Stadshotell in Varberg, Sweden. Founders and owners, the Laurin family, took an active part in the conference.
The 17th European Manning and Training conference was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 13-14 May 2014. Organised by Informa Maritime Events and excellently chaired by Kuba Szymanski, Secretary General of InterManager. The conference gathered some 150 participants from near and far.
Martin Hernqvist was one of the speakers and the title of his speech was “Developing effective safety cultures on board – moving outside the box to achieve results.” In his speech he talked about the three components of competency – ‘knowledge’, ‘skills’ and ‘attitude’. He mentioned that the maritime industry is too much ‘certificate focused’ and said that “certificates mean little, results matter”. He concluded that we have to move outside the box (meaning the STCW Code and Convention) and involve the ship owner and ship manager to achieve results. Effective safety cultures cannot be established if those are not on board.
Help us decide the most suitable dates and locations for the events during the second half of 2014. As usual, we will arrange the events when and where the demand is the greatest. As far as possible we will make sure that long distance travelling for the participants will not be required.
